Goal Setting For 2009

December 31, 2008
By Jay

Goal setting methods are like  belly buttons (I didn’t want to get an R rating) everyone has one.

Some people like to write them down in their computer, some like to jot them on a note pad and others will keep them in their thoughts.

I know people who will keep a list of 100 or more goals and review them both day and night.  I’m sure that helps them keep their goals in the forefront of their mind.

For me goal setting is a little bit of all those methods.  I like to first start by writing them in my personal journal.  I typically follow that up with putting them on the computer in some way.  It might be mindmap software, in a text document or whatever I’m in the mood for.

One of the most important things that I like to do is visualize my goals.  I’ve been taught that by several of my friends and mentors and it seems to work.  Visualizing your goal tends to keep it “real” for you.

So let’s start with my goals for 2009 (you can share yours in the comments)…

  1. Quit my day job by June 2009
  2. Get 5000 visitors a month to this blog
  3. Take my family to Disney World
  4. Make 5 posts per week
  5. Perform 5 tasks everyday that lead to #1 (Thanks @JonathanFields)
  6. Buy and learn how to use a Mac
  7. Travel to Las Vegas with the family
  8. Create and put on the market my super secret project
  9. Visit 2 friends I haven’t seen in 3 years
  10. Help 3 people achieve their goals

So that’s my short list of goals for 2009.  I’ll keep you updated on my progress (at least for the big ones).  Tell me what your goals are in the comments.  I’ll try and help you where I can to meet or exceed those goals.

I’d also like to thank some of the people who influenced my life in a big way in 2008.  I’m including their twitter link, you should follow them because they always have great information to share.

I’ll apologize now if I missed anyone.  Have a Happy New Year and fantastic 2009.
